First of all, I am a sophmore in high school and began my serious college search last year. I'm curious about majors and minors. Do they have to relate at all? For example, I'm considering Music and Marine Biology for my major, and International Studies for my minor. Is that acceptable? And is studying those different things possible?

One more thing: Does anyone know what the average college marching band season is and how often they practice? Because I'm in that now and want to continue it in college but it depends on the schedule because I also want to study abroad for a semester each year.

Thanks!

Marching band season is equal to football season (including pre-camp) -- Usually 2 weeks before fall semester begins and all the way through the fall semester.

You might want to talk with some music majors before you decide to do music and marine science as a double and Int'l Studies as a minor at the same time - that's a lot of time. Very many music majors take 5 years to complete just that major. Add another and a minor and you could be looking at 6 years. In 6 years you could have a master's in Marine Science.

Remember, you can do band and not be a music major. You can even study theory and applied music and not be a music major. During marching band season, you can expect about 22 hours in class and rehearsal, 8 hours of performance and prep time, and 12-14 hours of individual practice every week as a music major.

they don't have to do anything with eachother.

the schedule of their marching bands will depend on that particular school.
