I dont have a lot of money and we are planning a two night trip to the beach which is about 100 miles from where we live. I want to know what a guy thinks is romantic at the age of 35 that would suprise him and that has meaning besides SEX.

I think that, for most guys, sex IS the most romantic thing you can do. But do something different. You are going to the beach. Go skinny dipping with him. Don't wear anything when you are in your room/cabin. Don't wear underwear when you go out. This all lets him know that you are all his and, for this weekend, are holding nothing back. Mostly, laugh, have fun.

You are over-thinking this.

If you are married and have kids, then the act of getting away is romantic in-and-of itself. Where you go and what you do is just a detail.

You know your husband and your finances a lot more than we do, so you are probably in a better position to make this decision. However, here are a few off the top of my head.

1. Does he like to gamble? Go for a weekend in Vegas. Let him get $x in chips and give him a 2 hour time limit to play. After that, he's yours for the weekend.

2. Does he like football? Maybe his team is on the road that weekend. Get tickets to a game in that city. Again, the game is his gift. He's yours after that.

3. If you already have a destination in mind, here's one for you, but you have to be brave. Write him a note telling how much you love him and how much you want to make him happy. Tell him that he is the most important thing in your life, and how you want to be please him. Now, if he's smart he's going to say, "I love you as you are." or "You already make me happy." However, you have to be willing to take an honest look at yourself. Have you let yourself go? Tell him you are going to get back in shape for him. Do you nag him too much? Tell him you are going to go ___ days without nagging him.

It isn't about material things. If you've been married 17 years, then he is hopefully at a station in his life where he can buy what he wants, within reason. A truly romantic gesture would be to improve yourself for his enjoyment. Who knows? He might get the idea to do the same thing for you.
