I'd like to hear anyones opinions on China's One-child solution to overpopulation. Do you think it's an effective method? Is it a fair method? What would you think if the U.S. were to ever implement this method?

I think it is a way of trying to solve a problem. U can have one more if u have a girl and u work on a farm or u can have more in the cities if u pay a tax. in which lately they have had a problem because more ppl than they thought have chosen to pay the tax. So now they r thinking about raising the child tax. It will never happen here because of religious ppl like Catholics. But i would agree with it. There r so many ppl who dont agree with abortion but r ok with crack heads having multiple children they cant even feed.

well i know people from china and a lot of them have siblings their parents just paid extra taxes. and the whole gender based abortion thing only happens in rural communities and the actual practice of it is banned by law. so i think most of the criticism is from people who don't like to research the subject.
china is a different culture it's not like here where you'll have some girl with three kids and three fathers and under 21. these are couples in their mid-20's starting a family.

The Chinese I know seem to have done well by it.
It may not be fair, but it is necessary.

I can't see the US implementing it; keep in mind, we're only now at the level China was at 200 years ago (occupying a similar amount of turf).
