Ok, Im a senior in high school and I've been dating a girl for a long while now. We love each other very much, I'd do anyhting for her. We've gone through so much together. She's helped me through my problems, and I've helped her through hers no matter what the cost. And we've "came out" to the school so it's tough enough on us with people making bad comments, but we stick it out. But anyways, We talk about our future together all the time...Marriage, getting a house together, and adopting kids too. The only problem is, Im graduating this year. And she's only a freshman. It'll be 3 more years until she graduates. Our relationship will be illegal once I turn 18. Should I be worried about this? Im so scared I might make the wrong move and then BAM! Im facing a lawsuit....I dont want that to happen, but then again i dont want to lose her! plus, I wont see her often once i move to college...Im afraid we might grow apart. What would you guys do if you were in this situation?

thank you!

if it's real, you'll both be able to weather your time apart. If not, you've both had a wonderful (with each other, if not your schoolmates) first-love, and will both find new loves.

Once at college, see if the Student Union or LGBT club has any free legal services; run your concerns by them... each state has different laws.

Oh cripes! Be very carefull! the homophobes would love to nail you on statutory rape! I have seen this happen with straight couples where one turns 18 and the other is 16 or 17 and sometimes they break up due to the age difference and during the bitter fights the parents call the cops, or they stay together and the nosey do gooders get involved and Bam....Jail time. However if she were to become Emancipated, then, the age issues and statutory rape issues will not be an issue. Best bet is to speak with a lawyer in your area, look up the Gay yellow pages, or the pink pages and look for a lawyer there! Good Luck!

It's unfortunate that the law and the environment difference between you two is going to end up causing a rift in a relationship that you two are so comfortable in. There isn't much you can besides trying to stay and in touch and wait till she gets older if you're that serious about staying together.

Long-distance relationships rarely work, so it might be wise to see different people once that happens if both of you find it impossible to keep up the relationship. The main thing is not doing anything of sexual nature if you decide to pursue the relationship. You'll need to specifically look at the laws to find out what exactly you can't and can do, but it's going to put a block on them unfortunately.

My next door neighbors consist of a gay couple where the older man is 57 while the younger man is 23. They look more like father and son rather than a couple.

We make the mistake of saying that everyone under a certain age is a child. Obviously that is not so. It's not the passing of years that makes us an adult. You are in a bad situation here. Unless her parents accept her as a gay woman and you as her lover, you will have to wait for her.

Well this is a strange one but it all depends on her parents,,, if they decide to chunk you in jail as a predator when you turn 18 they can,,, so its really up to them. I would even try to get it on tape somehow, as the age of consensual sex is 15, 18 is the legal age.. maybe you two need to talk to her mother..
if not you were warned

you likely will grow apart. i say this because you will be in an environment that is much more accepting of gay students for the first time in your life. you will encounter a lot of other open gay kids your age and you will be able to interact with them on a daily basis. however, your relationship with your gf won't be risk to any statutory rape issues if you have the full and open support of her parents, as they are the ones likely to blow the whistle. if you don't have their support, it is best that you remain friends, email, chat, but don't continue to have sexual contact if you fear her parents' response. my college has the GLBT club and a bi-versity club, which is strictly for bisexual students. you are about to enter a whole new world.

I would say try to stay togerher as much as possible until you turn 18, then keep in contact with her but don't do anything illegal. Just keep in contact with her and after 3 years... (it may be a long time) but it may be worth it.

Sorry to say this but I see you as growing apart, at least for awhile. I think it would be prudent on your behalf.
