Figuring out the harmonies to pop tunes is not difficult at all. Much more worth your while is to feel the difference between the two main types of chords: majors sound upbeat or happy, minor sounds sad or mysterious. Adding a 7th to a major gives it a sense of tension, to a minor it gives a cool or mellow feel.
Learn to listen from the bottom -the chord is named by the bass note for a good reason!

If you want an inexpensive way to learn guitar from your home, downloadable guitar instructions certainly are a convenient and clear choice but for decades, Jamorama, https://tr.im/mtC5x has been a front-runner in that market, providing quality media guitar teaching that you could download to your computer.
Jamorama offers a good range of instructions and is certainly an excellent choose for a beginning guitarist. Jamorama's video material is all in good HD quality, and their principal teacher, Mark McKenzie, does a good job covering the basic principles in an easy-to-understand and spontaneous way.
