I was wondering...as a senior in my mid 60's, where would I look for a good place to move to that is prosperous, not too hot, not much snow, nice people, low rent. Is there such a place?

I hear North Carolina is the place to go.
Florida has BUGS! Lots of em! and is Hot hot hot
My daughter lives in Dallas and it is hot and expensive.
Colorado is nice been there.
Arizona is hot but has lots of job ops.
Stick with the snow n cold cuz it gets warmer and your house dosent burn or get blown over or swept away with water.

I spent 8 years in North Carolina, if you don't mind dying from humidity, mosquitoes and wishing the ground would puke instead of down pours and an average yearly rain fall of about 48" pick NC. I have lived in Alaska, way cold and nasty to me. I have lived in several places in Washington, I have lived in California, and Oregon and Idaho. I have a lovely apt. it is small and it is based on income. It is a senior complex so unless you are disabled or over 62 you cannot live here. Our weather is cold and hot. We do not have hurricanes, masses of rain, mold and bugs and snakes under every blade of grass. I am close to Boise Idaho in Caldwell---the building is secure and without a key or code you cannot enter, I am also a woman living alone. Look up Boise on your browser and see what you think. I moved here from Boise because the complexes there had a long waiting list. They have low income housing there that is by the river for $510.00 a month and it includes everything but your phone and cable tv. We do have some wind storms and often there are forest fires somewhere in the state during the summer but not extremes as in hurricans and tornadoes. The ocean is a days ride on a bus. you can also shop without 400 people shoving you out of the way. No population explosions. I still have a son in North Carolina and he isn't crazy about it either but has a good job and so does his wife so he will remain their I am sure. Just my opinion so please no rock chucking from Carolina lovers. I was born in Va and have also lived there. ;0)

I will suggest North Carolina. That state is located in the best climate. Hot but not very hot, cold, but not very cold. I lived there for 4 years. Snow: 2 inches on the ground is considered a blizzard. And it will snow. But nothing to write home about. The people when I was there were the best mannered. Very polite.
But why am I not living there? Its not cold enough. I'm thinking of moving 1 foot from the Canadian Border. LOL

Try the area of Virginia called 'Hampton Roads' - it includes Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Weather is mild in the winter ....little snow...sometimes none...southern gentility amongst the people...diverse and vibrant nice communities. I have been looking into Virginia Beach which I love and the sales and rentals are WAY below other places and you can get a really nice place. There are arts, crafts, museums, colisseums, shopping, lots to do and the food is great.

This area is about 3 hrs south of D.C. - easy accessible. There are train stations and buses which can carry you to DC or Baltimore should you ever wish to. In addition the city of Norfolk is also a port city and serves some of the major cruise lines.

MANY seniors move to this area.

I would recommend the Carolina's, it's beautiful there and the people are nice.
The Ozark Mountain's in Missouri is nice, but they do get a little snow. The people are very nice, try Springfield, Missouri or Nixa, Missouri.
Branson, Missouri is wonderful if you like country music, lots of entertainment for the senior generation and the people are wonderful. They have all of the older country western singers there like Dolly Pardon, Tammy Wynette.......the list is way to long.
Now if you love the ocean, like me, I recommend St Petersburg, Florida, the weather is the best, not to hot not to cold. It is a retirement area for seniors.
Largo or Clearwater, Florida is next to St. Petersburg, wonderful weather, and priced very reasonable.
You could always buy yourself a RV and check out the different areas in comfort, stay a while and see what you think. If you buy a RV then drive on down to Texas at Port O'Connor and see me:~) We are opening a RV Resort on the ocean.....so, if you like to fish and have a good time, come on down:~)
I hope this helps
West Palm Beach, Florida is very nice, but a little pricey.

Personally I enjoy the four seasons of Michigan. However, the prameters you have would be in the lower Virginia or upper North Carolina areas. Get a little back from ocean front and you'll find reasonalbe rent (at least you could 30 years ago when I was stioned there). The people are laid-back and loaded with Southern hospitality and it's pretty country.

I am quite happy where i live, and if I was closer to my son's family I would spend the rest of my life here, and my wife feels the same way,
while we live in a very small house, with a view of the Ocean, and the Harbor, a picture of which is on my 360' page. we do pay 500.00 a month. while it is quite common to pay 750.00.
however they do have low income housing, and senior apartments, if you do not mind living in an apartment, where the rent is based on your income.
while the weather here is the most moderate in the United States.
winter nights are in the 40's, and summer days are in the 70's with occasional highs and lows.
we do get snow here ever 2 to 3 years, but it only stays on the ground for a day or 2 at the most.

EDIT: i did forget to mention that we do get rain, lots and lots of rain.

The Nashville Tennesse area. There are outlying areas approx. 20 miles from Nashville that have lower rent. The climate is great, the humidity lower than the east, the friendliest people in the world, great churches, helpful-giving people, almost no snow, flat land and hilly land, no state income tax!

Florida might be a good place for you since you're a senior, the weather's warm, maybe a little too warm and I think the rent's low...compared to say California or New York.

those places are so much in demand that the "low rent" choice is basically impossible. Everyone wants to live in such a place, so any place that would have fit becomes in high demand (driving rents up), or gets overdeveloped (and is no longer so nice).
