I just felt that NASA already went to the moon almost 40 years ago. We have sooo many urgent problems that have the survival of the human race at stake on the "Earth" that we need to solve. It just doesn't justify to spend billions and billions more to go exploring on the moon just because China did it!!

Thanks for your answer but how can we "plan for the future" when we have pretty much messed up badly what we have in our hands?? I mean the neglect and ignorance about global warming not only has brought many disasters and drastic shift in weather and geography, it has already made the U.S. over-stretched for resources.

China may be advancing in many ways but don't forget the dues and consequences that they are ignoring gravely that would come back to bite them in the butt.

material resouces, planning for the future, positioning the USA for further expansion towards the Solar System. People in the government don't care about other questions. They have their priorities and strategies on the long run. The moon is simply too important to just let it go...
China will be the great leader and pioneer in many ways in the next century and the USA and Europe can't stand behind.

you are right.. it is true that the world, as we know it, is in danger, but maybe the reason for human civilization is something not so important, and if we self destroy.. life will find a way, with or without us. I remember the character in Jurassic Park, the smart guy played by Goldblum, he said that when the Professor told him, the Dinasaurs were genetically impaired to reproduce themselves on their own..... Life will find a way. and it did.
So life on earth will find a way to continue, with or without us. if we mess up.... we dissappear, but life will continue until the sun melts or explodes or whatever.
don't worry about all of this too much. there is little in our hands, little we can do. concentrate on your own existence, on your loved ones, family, work, creativity, whatever makes you a better person. work in your community on a small scale and maybe grain by grain we will sum up and change things for the better. we can live more ecologically conscious.
and for the dreams about space and conquering the galaxy... I'd rather see them give money for that then for wars.
