Please don't worry. Your chances of having a baby with abnormalities is extremely small. The risk only increases moderately after age 40 and significantly after age 45 so you are well within a "safe" range.

I'm sorry for the loss of your baby and will say a prayer for a healthy pregnancy.

I'm not over 35, but I also had a miscarriage in the spring and am now 18 weeks along. I had the AFP test a few weeks ago and received the news that I showed a higher risk for Down's. I was a little freaked, but this test comes with a lot of false positives and I tried to remember that. The best things about the positive test was that I was sent for an early ultrasound to check on the pregnancy. The doctor says everything looks great and we found out we are having a girl! Try not to worry too much about the test result. The doctor's are just trying to make sure you and your baby have the best care possible. Good luck with everything!

Listen...DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH STOCK IN THIS TEST. Hopefully, the individual that does the genetic explanation will explain to you that this test is nearly ALWAYS incorrect. (I believe the rate is 90% false positives) In fact, many women choose to not have the test done at all, as it gives far too many 'false positives'. Alledgedly if you have the triple screen along with the AFP, it is more accurate. Either way, I had them done with my pregnancies as did several of my girlfriends. With all of my test results I was told that my child was more than high risk for Down Syndrome or Spina Bifida. Three of my friends received the same info. Also, depending on where you are, they ask you if you want to terminate your pregnancy, due to your newly aquired info. (Awful, right?) Scour the internet for answers and support. Talk to your doctor and voice your concerns. I wish you much luck and peace of mind.

Even though your risk goes up with age, it still isn't significant enough to worry about. Really. It's still rare to have a baby with chromosomal abnormalities. And you're only 35, not 45. You're only on the cusp of being considered "advanced maternal age". So stay positive and relax.

stop worrying, u r going to have a healthy baby. ur previous miscarriage was just an unfortunate accident. forget about it. my dr told me miscarriage happens when the baby is not forming properly and it happens to a lot of women. every 1 in 4 women has a miscarriage and then they go on to deliver healthy babies.
u r going to be just fine. stop worrying and start dreaming about the day when that baby would be out of ur body and in ur lap.
good luck.

It's normal to worry but those tests are not always accurate. 85% of children born with ds etc are actually to younger moms because most women have their children in their 20's (which i didn't know until i had my daughter who has down syndrome)
