No. Their purpose is to control the population. I remember back in 1982, some idiots jumped down onto the Busch II AstroTurf and cut up swatches, leaving a huge hole in left field that had to be replace for the following season. Souvenirs are one thing, but property damage is another!

Mob scenes where cars are turned over and set ablaze, riots, looting, etc. are ridiculous and unnecessary. Honestly, how is that celebrating? Shooting guns into the air? Where do you think the bullets go? The laws of gravity don't go away just because your team won!

So, yes, there is a purpose. Now whether the police respect individual rights and let the people have the freedom to rejoice? That's another question!

absolutely NOT. They keep the fans in line while still allowing them to celebrate in a civilized manner and following the law. How would it be if everyone was rioting, scalping, starting bon fires and tipping cars just because they are excited? Police take care of the people who take it too far.

What rights could it limit? I think that their presence protects the rights of people. People have a right to be protected, especially in an environment where people consume large amounts of alcohol, and can become violent.

Um, what fan rights are the police limiting??? You come to the game, you can walk around, you can make purchases, eat, sit and watch the game, talk to people, cheer, go potty, ask for autographs, etc. Again, I ask, what rights are being limited???

No.

Fans do not have the right to jump on to the field and celebrate. They do not have the right to assault others. They do not have the right to destroy private property.

There are many good ways to celebrate within the law.

I don't believe that it does limit the rights of fans at all.... if you are doing something legal, then their presense, should make no diffrence to you in the least.... if you are doing something illegal, I'm glad they are there to protect, and put a stop to illegal and harmfull activities.
