Honestly, You just need to bite the bullet and practice. Luckily I lived right outside of a city, so I would practice out in the country roads and ween my self into the city limits. I started driving at 18 and I remember I was so scared. My knuckles would be white while I drove because I was so nervous. I would make my mom take the wheel when someone drove by because I thought I was going to hit that person.... lol.. sad i know... but i never gave up... Well in Texas you have to take a written test and a driving test with an instructor in the car. I passed the the written test with no problem but that at least gave me a permit to practice. I passed the actually driving test a month later. But I still dreaded getting into the drivers seat. However it just takes time, practice, and experience to just jump in and drive away. Just please be cautious, because People are crazy... never let your guard down... even when you have the right away at anytime... just watch out for the other guy. You have to practically drive for everybody... and always look ahead.

No one can give you an answer on this .... everyone is different and your instructor will know when he is comfortable enough to let you take the test. You would be best served to allow your instructor to give you a mock test and together look at your weaknesses and work on those. Sorry, but there just isn't a magic formula. At the end of the day, competence and safety are the key words here. If you've got those, together with total vehicle control, you will deserve to pass. Good luck !

I had 12 one-hour lessons for my car test.

I had 4 days of lessons for my H.G.V. test.

I passed both tests first time.

You were actually probably ready to take your test about 2 months ago. I'm not saying driving instructors are ripping people off these days, but 4 months of tuition...???

Most people were probably a bit nervous, but after you take the test and pass, you realize that the worrying was worse than the test it self. The only standard you should be at is where you feel comfortable. Understand and know what you are doing behind the wheel because it is a very important privilege.

There is no set amount of lessons - your driving instructor will know when you are ready and advise you to book your test.

I truly believe there is no specific time limit for you know when you are ready to try your test. Leave it to your instructor to advise you.
