I have a friendly debate with a friend over the best coastal places to live, and this is one of the questions that came up. If there are communities that recieve snowfall, how close to the water does it get......thanks.

Right to the waters edge, from sometimes as far south as, NC. to Canada in the north on the east coast.
Not sure of how far south on the west coast, but I am again sure it is to Canada in the north

yes; on the east coast, any number of communities will, especially the farther north you go. anywhere that receives snow in the east will generally have coastal towns that do, too; inland climates/elevations aren't as different as they are out west.

how close to the water? snow does fall onto water; then it melts.

Fairbanks and Juno AK get snow right down to the water, as do many AK communities. Seattle gets snow and keeps most of it in the mountains 35 mi away, where it belongs.
