Meiosis is a "reduction division" because during the two divisions that constitute meiosis, the number of chromosomes in the original cell is reduced by half.

If meiosis didn't accomplish that, then every generation would have more and more chromosomes than the generation before it.

the answer is C. meiosis reduces a 2n (full genome) cell into only n, creating a haploid (half genome) gamete. hope it helps!
