That's a weird thing for a teacher to say... maybe he means that you are already an independent, free-thinking individual.

I think he is saying that parents bother their kids when the kids have personalities. That is, when kids have ideas, thoughts, opinions so well formed that they are a big part of who they are and what they say. So kids like this have a hard time dealing with parents who might not agree with them.

But, he is also saying that most kids do not have personalities. They may have opinions but they are fleeting and temporary, not a real part of who these kids are and who they will become.

Finally, you might be the exception. You do have a personality. I think this was supposed to be a compliment.

Maybe he sees the personality that you let show. And the other students don't.
Personality is what makes everyone different & unique. Maybe you are just that.

Everyone has personality, it is more attitude your professor may be talking about, or maybe he really means that most of the students don't let their real personality show.

A good question for your prof would be "please define your meaning of "personality" because everyone has one good or bad.
