Many animals engage in homosexual acts, including our closest primate cousin -- the Bonobo. They engage in sexual acts for the same reason as humans, for psychological, social, and anthropological reasons.
The use it for exchange of goods, they use it as a greeting, they even use sex as a show of dominance.
Other non-primates also engage in homosexual acts, some monogamously.

I watched a show on gay animals. Dolphins, apes, baboons, and some bird species. Usually female baboons picked the other female as her mate. She would stay with her and only groom her and such. Licking each others genitalia and performing sexual acts as heterosexual baboons do was also noted. However, dolphins tend to be gay as males. Sometimes in threesomes.
