In astrophysics, a white hole is the time reversal of a black hole. While a black hole acts as an absorber for any matter that crosses the event horizon, a White Hole acts as a source that ejects matter from its event horizon. The sign of the acceleration is invariant under time reversal, so both black and white holes attract matter. The only potential difference between them is in the behavior at the horizon.

Hawking argued that white holes are the same as black holes, once quantum mechanics is taken into account.

I though hawking himself abandoned the idea of white holes.

but I agree that a quantum view point changes the rules on how objects CAN behave.

I personally believe in white holes (aka Big Bangs),

as far as WHY, well, there is no reason for it except that just is.
These objects, black holes just ARE because they do fall into Newtonian laws of physics. The can exist, so they do.

remember Einstein developed the theory of a black hole to see how the math works. Many years later, we can now "see" black holes and we know that the math DID work.

black holes and white holes exist because the math works in the physical world.

hows about string theory and the idea of a cyclic universe?

can the branes in the 10th dimension that slammed into each other be tied to blackholes and what they can do to space, time, or should I say dimensions 1-4 and on to 5 through 10

most importantly, for every one here.......
people said black holes didn't exist either,
now, they are found in the center of almost EVERY galaxy we find.

if you can truly answer......... where did our big bang start from, then YOU can safetly say....... black holes DON'T exist.

Nobody knows the answer to your question "what's going on".
The current state of the art theory is a combination of predictions made by Einstein's theory and more modern related derivations and astronomical observations. In other words, the scientists think these things exist.
The level of theory and mathematics is serious and the "why" of it is simply that the math says so.
In terms of what it means for the universe (as a storm might mean for the atmosphere) I really can't imagine anyone genuinely knows this.

yea...white holes are idiotic ideas thought up decades ago and they violate several laws of science, they dont exist. just because stephen hawking thinks they do doesnt mean hes always right, if you look at his accomplishments he really hasnt done much for the science community at all.

black holes are just the end result of a star, they exist because it makes sense for them to exist. they exist because gravity exists. they are caused by gravity and create it. they arent a portal anywhere, they are just an infinitely dense point, they lead no where except to the center of them.

and about white holes once more, we would have observed a white hole before. we dont observe black holes because light cannot escape them, but if light were being spewed out of a white hole we would see the massive electromagnetic radiation and even the visible light. and if a white hole spewed out matter it would run out of matter billions of times faster than black holes. white holes dont exist...

never heard of a white hole but a black hole is when a star collapses on itself and creates a wormhole....it makes u think what might be at the other end of one

Everything in nature has an opposite, that is what brings balance. Every positive has a negative, this extends to every aspect of life, our planet, and the universe.

Black holes are a natural part of a massive star's evolution, or at least, that's what we theorize.
White holes do not exist.

No such thing as white holes.

Possibly you are thinking of white dwarves, which is a totally different thing.
