This is difficult to narrow down to 10. Für Elise can hardly be called 'notable'. Just because something is popular, it doesn't qualify it as being 'notable'. Also, to list the 'Ode to Joy' divorced from the great symphony from which it comes is just a symptom of 'bite-sized classics' that are infesting our society and should be discounted.

If pushed, my 10 would have to be (in no particular order):
Violin Concerto
Piano Concerto No 5 (Emperor)
Fidelio
Missa Solemnis
Symphony No 3 (Eroica)
'Hammerklavier' Piano Sonata
Grosse Fuge
'Kreutzer' Violin Sonata
'Appassionata' Piano Sonata
Symphony No 9 (Choral)
