The clicks can be 2 things:
1. Solenoid (Starter)
2. Too little electricity to turn over starter. Make sure connections are good to battery and starter, wires are not corroded, battery is fully charged and working. Most Autozone type places will test battery for free if you take it out, and even charge it for you for free if necessary.

When you turn the key (not to start it but just turning it) is there power, like lights radio, electricity? Another option to rule out the battery is you can have it tested at an auto parts store for free. You should do that first. Also that clicking noise? is it a click like you described or is it a CLINK(like metal hitting each other with a slight clink sound)? If it is the "click" sound then it's the battery or alternator. Now if it is the CLINK sound then it's your Starter not engaging. That CLINK is coming from the solenoid trying to engage the Starter. Best of luck!

When you turn the key to START it what happens?
1) Nothing happens? (dead battery?, loose battery cables, or it's not in "park" all the way.)
2) You hear a "click", but nothing else? (loose battery cables, bad starter, bad starter solenoid, or broken engine)
3) You hear the starter turning, but the engine doesn't turn? (low battery voltage, bad starter or bad ring gear on flywheel/flex plate)
4) The starter turns the engine, but the engine won't start up? (out of gas, bad fuel pump, plugged fuel filter, broken timing belt, no spark)
5) The engine turns over, but very slowly. (weak battery, worn starter, out of engine oil)
6) the engine turns, but there's an awful banging noise? (something is broken inside the engine)

If your car clicks First check the battery charge,If the battery charge is goos tap on the starter and as you tap on the starter have somebody turn key to crank the engine. If the car cranks like that then thats your starter thats bad and you have to change it.
