It depends on your opinion of the definition of "a lot."

To my way of thinking back then, yes, we got "a lot" of homework.

Usually 2 to 3-1/2 hours a night for most of my friends. I was very lucky in that I was a fast learner and a fast worker. Still, it took me about 1-1/2 to 2 hours a night. And, of course, on weekends, we had somewhat more than twice that much. This was in addition to what we got done in study halls and the school library during the school day.

That's also not counting the time it took to do the special projects that occasionally came up--term papers, book reports, oral classroom reports, classroom speeches, science and art projects, that sort of thing. And a half-hour a night of music practice.

Still, looking back, I do more work now, working in an office, than I did in school, so it was just preparing me for the reality of the workplace, as well as teaching me facts, how to research facts, how to effectively communicate those facts to others, how to work efficiently, and how to budget time.

somewhat. it all depends on which teachers you get...
but i went to a REALLY high-prep school and spent only 3-4 hours at MOST on homework (per night).

oh and it really helps if you pre-plan and get work done ahead of time (if you're not that busy). that helped me ALOTTT.
