You lucky bastard....lol

One meeting that I will always remember is going to the Gardens for a Leafs practice and having an..."encounter" with Gary Valk. I was doing co-op (which I highly recommend you do, Chris) for CTV (now Rogers) Sportsnet in their inaugural year and I was assisting Christine Simpson on the trade deadline that year. We were sent to there in case something happens and I was supposed to take a tape back to the station (never happened). Anyways, I took a seat behind one of the benches where Mike Johnson and Gary Valk were, what I thought, joking around. As Valk was jumping on the ice, Johnson told him to "kill some penalties" because he was one of the best PK guys in the league at the time. I started chuckling when Valk pointed his stick at me and yelled, "What the f*ck are you laughing at, kid?!" I was 16 at the time so I had this blank look on my face, "Uhhhhhh....." lol

Also, being with Sportsnet in their first year, I had a chance to meet Nick Kypreos, Greg Millen, and Darren Dreger (sp?). Great guys. I stayed late helping out their Tuesday night hockey program (I can't remember the exact name of the show), keeping an eye on Reuters and AP for any news, when Kypreos put me in a headlock and asked me, "Do you like pizza?" I nodded. "Let me take you to some pizza." He literally dragged me with the headlock still applied to the control room where he bought everybody pizza. I bumped into him again two years ago when I was doing a job at Ontario Place. The guy had a concussion which forced him to retire and he still said, "Hey, I know you...." I must've done something right when I was there. lol

I have met all the Panthers players who have passed through here. I had a real nice conversation with Brian Bradley in a hotel lobby. I had on my Panther jersey and had just had a fight with the guy I liked at the time, so we started to chat about hockey. he was a great guy. I didn't bother him for autographs at the time. I see Ryan Sittler all the time. He is a kid's coach at our rink. I just seem to run into hockey guys all the time. I have met so many I can't even keep track any more. It's fun to chat with guys that play hockey for a living. Especially since us gals don't get to yet.

OMG I LOVE DARRYL SITTLER!!! He's soooo nice! He gave his 1980 All-Star game jersey to Terry Fox when he was running to raise money for cancer because he was Terry Fox's idol!!!! I love successful people who are nice too. Aw shucks.

Oh, BTW, I met Ken Dryden last summer. I was kinda shocked. He wasn't rude or anything, but he wasn't what I expected after reading his book. I can't really explain it... Anyway, he is very smart and a bit soft-spoken. Not to mention, extremely tall. :)

Bob - I got the pompous kind of guy-lawyer thing from the book. :P The only way I can put it gently is: he's REALLY boring. Almost a disgrace to the awesomely obnoxious Habs team he played with back in the day. I don't know what kind of lawyer he is, but he's a crappy politician. He couldn't make an ispirational speech to save his life.

Makes me think of Ryan Sittler, another draft day flop. Darryl seemed to be pretty good, I met him once. Ron Hextall was the best I ever met and Dave Schultz.

Gratz Chris Quite the rush eh? I got my first autograph from Gordie Howe when I was six. I got Bobby Hull's at nine. I got Tim Horton's at ten and Gilbert Perrault at eleven. Got Frank Mahovlich and Eddie Shack at a golf tournament I worked. Wayne Gretzky helped me run my lacrosse practice for my pee wee team until my cocoaches showed up when I was 18 and then he sign autographs for all the kids. I caddied for my Dad in a golf tournament and one of the members of his foursome was Don Edwards so I got his autograph. I used to work at the Brantford Golf and Country Club for six years and I got Doug Jarvis, Doug Risebrough and Pat Hickey autographs all in one day. They all were nice. Tim also gave me a puck. I still have most of it locked safely away too.
