Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.
The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:
http://www.speeduppc.info/index.php?t=makepcf
lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.
Good luck!

RAM is Random Access Memory. This ultra fast memory is where the computer stores info it is currently working on. If there is insufficient RAM, the machine will have to use the hard disk to swap data in and out, which is VERY inefficient.

If you have 1 GB or less of RAM, consider increasing it to 2 GB (make sure it is the right speed and type for your motherboard. This is the one cheapest solution for speeding up a slow PC.

Ram will speed up the computer, it is your memory. The harddrive is just to store information,(documents, pictures, music). Think of it as a large room you put stuff in. I suggest you go to Crucial.com, and use their Crucial System Scanner,(free, you don't have to buy anything, and they don't look at private info. It's just a way to help sell their products, like a free estimate on painting your house), to know how much, what kind, etc. of ram you can install.

Memory and ram are the same things. It would be hard to answer your question without knowing what you currently have.

I just came back to this. How can you people say get more memory when you don't even know what OS this person is using, how much memory they have, how much ram their MB handle? Give me a break...

RAM is memory, but adding it will not necessarily speed up your computer.

There are alot of other variables involved than just adding more RAM.

Many other things can cause computers to run slow.

RAM will definitely speed up the computer. My rule when I buy computers is to get as much as is available.

RAM is Memory. (Random Access Memory).

The more of it you have, the faster you go!

Simple as that.
