if i said "i am to books what ostriches are to sand" would you know what i meant?

yes, you mean that just as an ostrich buries its head in the sand to try to avoid negative situations, you bury your head in a book as your form of escape. (Maybe I understood you because I tend to do the same thing) :)

Ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand; that is a myth, used as a figure of speech. So you might mean that you are only SAID to bury your head in a book.

It makes sense perfectly. Your saying that your head is buried in books, like a ostriches head is, supposedly buried in sand.
