The sound lasted almost for a good minute over Cal State Long Beach. If it was a jet, what kind? Why have I never heard this sound before over CSULB?

It was a B-1 bomber. Occasionally they go to Long Beach airport to get repaired since Boeing is right next door. If you register on the city of Long Beach website they will tell you when they are arriving and leaving.

You're not that far from the OC and a lot of airfields. I wouldnt be surprised if it was one of the Air Force planes who have been helping out with the fires. I've heard that sound and it can break windows. You might try calling John Wayne Airport or even the Seal Beach Testing facility. If you catch the right person, they might be able to tell you what it was. You could also call the lovely Long Beach Police Department. They're really not a bad bunch of people. Good luck with this.

You are close to Los Alamitos. There are California Air National Guard planes there. We are at war. Operation Noble Eagle is the operation which is involved with the defense of the homeland. Part of that operation is continuous air patrols and quick responses to any air threats in U.S. airspace.
