Just because the music has sexual messages doesn't mean you have to follow them. This is one of those "If they jump off the cliff are you going to follow?" situations but I really think that it's not all the musics fault. There has always been teenage sex and teen pregnancy I really don't know why people are acting like if it's the music's fault, because it really isn't. It's the kids choice if they have sex or not. I mean sometimes it's bound to happen. I think that the reason for teen sex and teen pregnancy is lack of responsibility and parents lack to talk openly to their children about sex. Most parents are too embarrassed or they want their child to figure it out. Teens also have to be responsible enough to use protection. Lastly, even though schools do talk about it it's not enough. The main cause of teen sex and pregnancy is the lack of knowledge and responsibility.

While I don't think rap is solely to blame for young sex & pregnancies, a lot of mainstream rap does have overt sexual tones. There is a definite trend in the whole "oh I f*cked that b*tch in da club last night" concept. Not only is it derogatory, rap no doubt contributes to the strong sense of sexuality in teen listeners everywhere.

I listen to rap; it's great to dance to & is just fun. I never take the lyrics to heart though, so I doubt that rap is solely to blame for teenagers having sex young & "producing babies."

PS - There are also some more society-conscience rappers out there (such as Kanye West and Common) who don't rap all about sex and raunchy acts towards women. They're not bad either!

Song lyrics have always played a huge part in our society and how the young people of that day conducted themselves. Back when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's the lyrics were pretty graphic for there times, but I must say that they were never as vulgar as they are now. In my day the singer would romance the woman , nowadays, they just want to get her or them wet and move on to the next hottie. The dances have to keep up with the songs of the day. If you have vulgar songs you will have vulgar dances.

I think it has more to do with upbringing and what parents let their kids listen to. I worked at a school in Germany where 11-year old kids were going around singing Candy Shop by 50 cent. That was kind of disturbing but they had no idea about what it meant.
I think teenagers are going to have sex anyway and I doubt the lyrics of rap songs have anything to do with it.

Most of the rappers are just messed up and most of the tv you watch and most of the music you listen you listen to is mostly about sex. This is influencing the minds of our youth so that's what they think of. I heard that every 16 year old thinks about sex every 7 seconds. This is probably because of the music and tv they're exposed to. And yes, I do believe the rappers and their sexual based songs should be part of the blame.

No, they should not be to blame. However you cannot deny that they are influencing society in a way that encourages that kind of behavior. Parents, family and friends should all raise children in a manner that keeps the child grounded and well aware as to what happens when behavior like that happens in the real world. AIDS is real. Pregnancy is real. Rappers and music should be heard for enjoyment only...it's the parents job to teach their children the difference between fiction and reality!!

Certainly, anytime that 'children' -- barring adults who ACT like children -- have access to your music, then you should write/produce your music accordingly, with respect to/for them. If you are infusing your music (mostly the rap industry) with sex, guns, violence, etc, then what message are you sending to youths/children? Obviously, it isn't a wholesome/ 'GOOD' message. These artists, especially nowadays, must take more responsibility when making music, and tailor it to the ears of both adults and children, as both groups will have legal access to it all. Of course, parents should play a [large] role in what their children watch, hear, etc, but parents cannot be everywhere, all the time. Nor can parents assume that other parents who may be watching their children are responsible and/or intuitive enough to not allow that same cRAP music to play around their children.

Rap isn't the only perpetrator here. Listen to a few of the new(er) songs, like Umbrella, by Rihanna. What the #$%@ is she trying to say at the end of the song when she implores, "COME INTO me, Come into ME..." Huh? That's just ridiculous, and sick. Also, Pink's fairly new song, "It's you and your HAND TONIGHT." MY WORD... unbelievably devoid of respect and/or decency. Children should NOT(ever) have to be subjected to such music, yet they are. Music stations should ban/boycott such music. Alas, they will never, as they're all about ratings/$$$, just as the artists (if you can call them artists at all!) are.

It's all just rather sad. Now, as to your question, do I believe that this music elicits and/or is the CAUSE of rampant sex among teenagers, or violence? That's a very tough thing to prove... BUT, is it logical to draw that conclusion based on, well, LOGIC? Sure, if a child "grows up" with hearing that kind of music around their house 24/7, and with friends, I do believe that music, of any sort, becomes a PART OF YOU, your soul, your heart. Therefore, if it is music infused with sex, drugs, violence, will a child do those things? Well, can't say really, but logically, I'd have to answer, YES, it is POSSIBLE. Therefore, to those artiiiists who make these filthy albums, SHAME ON YOU, you should be ashamed of yourselves, and taken off the airwaves, forever.

At least these albums should contain a sidenote saying, "Parental Guidance is Suggested." As parents SHOULD be GUIDING their children, all the way along the path of life, instilling them with good etiquette, and individuality... at least, until they're of age to move out. ;)

Thanks for a good question, and take care.

I dont think people have sex because they heard about it in a rap song...

People have been having premarital sex since before rap was even discovered. Therefore no one can simple blame rap music and artist for teenagers having sex. Also, not every teenager listens to rap music yet many of them have sex.. for this to be proven correct all teenagers who listen to rap would have to be having sex and people who do not listen to rap would be virgins. Because this isnt true at all, the original question can not be true.

Teenagers do have parents. The parent's job is to instill values and morals within their children and teach them to make good decisions. That being said, some teens will do what they want regardless of their parents. However, rappers are not to blame. I blame hormones and young people who lack self control.

There are a lot of things that could be the problem for this kind of behaivor.Sure music can beone of the many reasons, but also there are other things like family problems, tv violence, etc. Either way it would be a very difficult thing to do to prevent this all. The entertainment business tries to sell by using a lot of things that have to do with sex, but they just need to tone it down. However i agree with you, but also i think that we cannot completely blame it on them.
