the look of ice frozen to tree limbs? With the sun shining it looks like trees encrusted with diamonds!

Too bad it means ice on the roads as well.

having lived in the central valley of California, you would thing that this is a scene uncommon to most people,
however it does get below freezing a couple of months out of the year.
this is Orange season there, and to keep the Oranges from freezing, the rancher use mister sprinklers in the groves,
these mister spray water to keep the temperature above freezing and keep the Oranges from freezing.
so imagine rows of orange tree in freezing whether with water misted on them and as the water hits the trees .it freezes, and continues to freeze though out the night. it only gets this cold when the shy is clear, so in the morning there is a bright sun shining on these trees with 4 inch icicles hanging for all over the trees, row on row of them,
and it is like walking into a winter wonderland, with the icicles shining from the sun, and these Oranges turning orange on the trees, and the mist from the mister still blowing through the rows.

it will take you breath away.

Snow is nice on a christmas card or picture post card Snow is also nice to see from a window when you feel all warm in front of a lovely hot fire but on the roads its a hazard which causes really bad accidents and some people get killed..
Here in the UK we get quite a lot of snow and the roads always become so slippery and the pavements are so slippery too, many a time, due to the frost and ice I have fallen over. I have also seen lots of other people tumble and some get quite badly hurt!!
So although I agree that it looks really beautiful I wish that snow was only on picture post cards, christmas cards and in T.V and films!!!

Sorry, but I'd have to NO! Here in California, that kind of thing ruins all of our oranges that are hanging on the trees. Last year was the first time that I got an upclose look at real ice cicles when the pipes froze & then burst on the outside of the building. I did find it interesting, yet I just can't fathom why anyone would care to live in such a cold climate. Guess I'm spoiled. I enjoy looking at the snow-capped mountains from the valley floor!

While I was living in the mountain cabin early one morning on my way back from my out house I looked at the small pines in the back yard and they were literally alive with the fire of all the colors of the raibow. I tried to get a picture but it didn't show up. We used to have hoar frost in Oregon when I was a little girl and it was gorgeous. In NC we had an ice storm and one of the trees in the edge of the swamp the next morning was like a strink of clear sparkling tree lights, awesome nature at it's best.

Yes, it is beautiful and I saw plenty of it growing up in WV. Sometimes it looks like a winter wonderland and you can't even tell where you are. I live in NC now and there are a lot of power outages due to the ice. I'm used to driving in the snow, but you're right ice can be very dangerous.

It IS a beautiful sight - and last winter I even took pics from my sunroom at the iced up trees outside...however, as you said, it also bodes danger in navigating steps, sidewalks and then having to clear off the car and hope you make it to work or wherever else you have to drive without sliding off the road or careening into somebody else!

Better yet - stay in!

Round these parts too much ice like that ends up resulting in power failure as the lines come tumbling down!

Sometimes seems that nature's beauty flies in the face of man's needs....daggum shame

IT is one of the most beautiful things to see....I have been through a few Ice storms where this has happened...it isn't all that common, but when it happens, yes, it is glorious. The last time I saw this was 1995 when living in Maryland. Thankfully, the streets had been salted, so they were clear, but the trees were iced and gleaming in the sun. Peace, Goldwing

Yes, we get that frequently where I live in the winter. We also get what's called a hoarfrost when the air is damp and crystals freeze on the tree limbs and everything else. Everything is covered in a coat of white frost. It's breathtaking, almost looks just like a postcard.

I do love to look at the ice on the trees, I love the sound of it when it starts to melt and crash to the ground. You're right though, I hate driving on the ice.

Be safe this winter.

Did you trigger a memory! When I was a kid in New Hampshire we had an ice storm one year. It was truly a fairy land of diamonds. My sis and I put on our skates and went skating down the hill. What a wonder that day was!
