No, I don't believe that biologists have discovered a shoe gene yet. We've just been socialized by Carrie Bradshaw.

I also have an obsession for some shoes. There are some people who might even say it is a fetish. When it started, I really can't say, but I have aways had this desire to have and wear certain shoes.

It may not be scientific, but we know everyone is born with a personality. The traits you have are because your personality decided what and which choices you wanted and the result is what you have become today. Did someone have to tell you to like shoes? I'll bet you only like certain shoes. It all stems from who you are. I hope that we can all be accepted for being who we are and not some social stereotyped ideal. Enjoy your footwear and just keep your perspective and balance for life as you continue to learn.

As long as I'm comfortable, and my shoes aren't totally worn out, I could care less what shoes I have. So not all "girls" or women are obsessed with shoes. I am obsessed with chocolate, but I don't want to know the scientific reason for it. Sometimes, it's just better not to know.

I suppose I count as being obsessed with shoes. I have plantar fasciitis and am always looking for shoes that I can wear that won't cause me pain. Since I walk 4-8 miles most days, I need shoes that can stand up to this and still be comfortable and that I can wear at work. It's tough finding something that meets my needs, but I spend a fair amount of time looking.

Q. Enough with the stereotypes. Is there some scientific explanation why boys are obsessed with power tools?

A. Boys/men AREN'T all obsessed with power tools. Nor are all 'girls' obsessed with shoes.

Being "obsessed" with shoes is really more about being obsessed with material possessions and the way things are marketed to consumers. If the selection for shoes (or anything else) was limited to three or four styles, the desire to possess more wouldn't exist.

Since there IS such variety, your behavior is really more like a conditioned, Pavlovian response to marketing and fashion -- you've been trained to want more and like a good little consumer, you respond with developing an obsession.

I'm a girl and I am NOT obsessed with shoes. I think it is ridiculous to pay over 30 dollars for a pair of shoes, and ridiculous to have more than maybe 6 pairs.

I have some idea about.. They might be true.
Girls prefer heels shoes because,
1. It helps them to show themselves with at least half feet extra height.
2. Definitely gives them confident and brisk walk. You can really feel it.
3. Last but the not least, Just wear and stand strightly and check which part of body moves frant. I'm sure It gives a sexy look ;) ( dont you think some science may work here Ofcourse yes...)
Have a great day... :)

Since I wear a size 11 in women's shoes, there's no way I could be obsessed with them. The selection in that size is very limited.

I'm a girl, and don't have an obsession with shoes. It depends on the individual - it's not a gender issue.

Not everyone is. It's the same reason they're obsessed with clothes, hair, and handbags. They want to make the right impression.. Some just get carried away...
