Planetes, and A Cheeky Angel is a good one but it has not been translated into english yet so you either need to be able to understand japanese, or watch with subtitles, or you can read the manga which is really good, im on volume 19 right now.

Yu-Gi-Oh! is about the least inapproprite anime i have ever seen but on the downside it has kinda kiddish diolauge (thank 4kids for that!) but it does have an intresting story line
the jap. version is ment for teens i wouldent say its inappropriate but the voices are really annoying
