Y+(1/3)=2
-1/3 from both sides
Y=1and 2/3s

or if what you see is (Y+1)/3=2 than you
times by 3 on both sides
Y+1=6
minus 1
y=5

it depends where the parentheses are

y+1/3=2
y+1=2*3
y+1=6
y=6-1
y=5

Check this by substituting the value of Y into the equation. So:

y+1/3=2
(5+1)/3=2
6/3=2 ----> Which is correct!

You need parenthesis. (Y+1)/3 is completly different then Y+(1/3) it could be either, 3 or 5. Look at the question to determine if any parenthesis are there.
