swear words are defined by society for that time period.

words that are considered swear words were not in the past. few examples: pu**y is nothing but a female cat, but when items like Playboy, etc came about, it was adopted as a slang word for the female part of the body. Cr*p was nothing more than a mans last name, Crapper. During WWI our boys saw toilets over seas w/ a tank on top. The tank had the makers name. In turn we get the word cr*p for such items pertaining to this area. B*tch is nothing more than a female dog. But being slang its talking about a woman, more or less calling her a dog.

When I grew up, just saying hell was considered a bad word. Heck was the correct response. But today you hear preachers n such screaming hell in churches and its considered a normal word.

Sensors usually only take notice of swear words in the primary language of the movie or TV show.

Movie and TV show makers get around this by using colorful words from other languages and cultures.

"Bloody" is still considered a bad word in Britain but not in America (which is why it is sometimes use in American TV). Conversely, the F word is not considered as bad in Britain as it is in America so they can use it.

ADD: "Dork" is one of many Yiddish words that became popular because it is dirty but not English.

In the TV show Firefly they used very nasty Chinese curses that the actors learned phonetically.

I do not think its a bad word or its swearing.

I have had this before said to me 'Your swearing' and I just said I am expressing how I feel and if you do not like what I am saying, it is saying a lot about yourself! So I am not trying to offend anyone.

Why do people make it personal about them when you are saying how you feel about something!

I think its down to the indivdual and what their beliefs are!

Bloody is actually in the dictionary and I know that all swear words do not actually make it!

I hate the C word ~ did you know it means trouser crease in russian!?!

There are thought to be two meanings of the word depending on whether you are Catholic or Protestant, it either means By Our Lady, meaning the Virgin Mary, so it is equivalent to blasphemy if you are a Catholic. If you are Protestant it refers to Bloody Mary, (Mary Tudor) who had lots of Protestants burned at the stake in her short yet significant reign. As most people don't tend to know the meaning and lets face it, neither are obvious, it is not considered as generally offensive as it once was. Especially as there are much more severe words now. Oh the wonder of a constantly developing language.

I don't think it's a rude word because when I was very little my mum used to say it all the time and she wouldn't get angry when we said it back.

In my household however, we never swear. In fact the word "sex" is never used. Many words are taboo but I guess it's just polite to save social awkwardness. I mean, I've never even felt the NEED to swear in front of my parents. Outside of my home, I consider the "s-word" "f-word" "c-word" etc. to be rood.

no word is 'BAD'. Its what the speaker meant when they said it. bloody isnt swearing but people used to use it so they wouldnt get into trouble for swearing. Now it is considered to be a rude term.

In todays society, I don't think its swearing.

What I hate most, is hearing people use the C word, kids using the F word and most of all, the one I hate the most if people who say God, Oh My G... or OMFG. They all mean the same thing, and they are all blasphemy. I think that is FAR worse than swearing.

There are no bad words, you have just been taught that they are bad by people wanting to make you just like them. Try to think differently and realise no single word has more significance than another.
