the best thing to do will be spend more time with the elders, try to understand them as to what they need, what they expect. in case u do not agree with them try to put forward ur view in a manner that they understand and try to find the best possible compromise.

respect elders, and their orders. they ask us to do a few thing in a particular manner as they would have been in that situations and know what should be done. thus experience is the valuable treasure that every elderly person have. utilise it to the fullest.

The younger generation needs to not be so self centered or in so much of a hurry. If they could just stop, take the time and listen to their elders., the things that they would learn would help them in their own lives and it would make the elderly person feel important and helpful.

Younger people, beginnning in elementary school, need to visit nursing homes and elder care facilities on a regular basis. That way they appreciate them more and get to understand what it is like to be old and alone, and the elderly would be thrilled to have visitors since most of their families never do. This would be especially important around the holidays when they elderly feel the loss of friends and family the most.

Listening to their wisdom and asking them for advice will lift their spirits and give them more respect for you. Also getting involved in what they do also makes them feel like they are passing down something useful. Most things the younger generation do today they don't understand and can't because of the way technology has taken off but some of them want to learn so take the time and teach them.

It's commendable that you want to help the elderly. Most don't.

Also you can call any medium to large size nursing home or hospice and ask about volunteer opportunities.
