I'm not sure what type of bed you have, but underbed storage is useful...it's a way to put things away but since no one will see it - it's not necessary for it to be neat. It also can help if you determine a "home" for all of your things, that way when you are putting things away, you know right away where they can go.

A hamper that goes with your room style and doesn't look utilitarian. Some handy inexpensive closet organizers and tools like hanging racks, dividers, shoe rack.
A cute storage ottoman that also doubles as extra seating when you have company.

Shelves and totes. And make sure to put stuff where it belongs when you're done using it.
I can sympathize: I was messy as a teen too.
