If you like him don't worry. He's got something great to add to a resume or to his transcript & info when he applies for college.

when I was a teen, 18 is the last year you can be a boy scout.

most Eagle scouts only reach that position around age 17.

Many men join Scouts at a young age and enjoy the program so much that they stick with it through their entire lives. Men in their 80's and 90's enjoy the program.

What would be weird for a boy or young man to enjoy a hobby?

No, there is a branch of Boy Scouts called "Eagle Scouts" that are for older, high-school aged boys.

I believe that you can remain in Boy Scouts until the age of 18. I know a couple of guys who still are and I'm 18.
