Horrible and very funny adaptation of the popular children's book that plays like a bad SNL skit that is trying to parody "The Lord of the Rings" than the book that it's based on. The screenplay is a major mess with dialog that even little kids would find stupid and the performances are almost all laughably bad. Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich should be ashamed of themselves for even agreeing to be in this film and Djimon Hounsou should start reading his scripts a little more carefully. The only redeeming thing about this crappy film is the great voice over work of Rachel Weisz, who manages to give the dragon Saphira more talent and range in terms of solid acting than all the human actors working in the film. The C.G.I work done for Saphira was also well done, making her more lifelike than her human co-stars as well.
Outside of Rachel Weisz's great voice acting and the great special effects for the Dragon Saphira, this movie is more and less a bad comedy that did not deserve nether of them.

I know it sucked. Brom died by Durza not the ra'zac. They made Eragon look stupid when he got mad at Brom to go to Gilead, not just having arya give him the images in his head. I know they completely skip Teirm and Jeod. Also the urgals look stupid. They are supposed to have horns they are to human-ish. I think the movie completely missed the point. It should be remade by a good director who actually read the book.
This could have been a really good movie if a good director made it.

I didn't read the book(s) but it's known fact that books are always better because the movie usually takes out a lot of little details from the original story. I saw the movie and yes, I know it was crap. There wasn't enough emotion in it.

Many who read the book were sorely disappointed in this film, myself included. They really should've taken more time and effort into making it a better film, because it really could have been......that's why Peter Jackson was so successful with the Lord of the Rings. Personally, I thought they made it so quickly because of LOTR's success, but they failed miserably because it didn't even hold a candle....and I'm not really looking forward to anymore Eragon films, either.

It was a fair film but way off the books so that they have to work if they want to make Eldest as a movie.
