Freckles are often considered blemishes. They aren't of course - they are beautiful, but there are more unfreckled people in the world that freckled ones, and so like redheads (also a minority) they are subtly discriminated against.
To make people with freckles feel better about themselves, someone once patronisingly said that they are a sign of beauty.
Which they are. Really. Freckles rule! Everybody should have them ;-)

The myth is actually beauty marks are a sign of beauty. Beauty marks aren't the red/orange ones; they're those little black dots that appear mostly from spending time in the sun. Some people call them freckles, too.

It was a cover up to make the child feel okay about them.I was a walking talking freckle as a child and i hated them.I looked like I had a pebble dashed face.If I'd joined the dots I would have had a map of the world on my face.My mom told me they were a sighn of beauty but i wasn't stupid.They faded as i got older though and i look back and laugh at how those freckles made me feel.

My Mum used to say that freckles were a sign that you had been kissed by the sun. Don't know where she got it from though.

With all the people, spending so much time in the sun. Why
are they afraid of a freckle? I had them, when I was a boy.

Because they fade as you get older, the same as beauty. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Inner Beauty is more important.
