Buying their love

I'm not sure of an exact psychological phrase, but parents who give their kids expensive gifts are often considered indulgent. They also may do this to buy their kid's love.

There can be other reasons as well. Some parents rationalize and say that they never got things when they were growing up---they have the money, so they want their kids to have what they want.

Many kids today happen to call the shots. It's not unusual for parents to give their kids a brand new car when they can drive.
My first car was a 10 year old Duster, but it was a car and it drove.

In my opinion, parents are giving kids the wrong messages by indulging them. What happens once these kids are out on their own?
