First of all, to the people who said that they do not sleep because they have to keep moving, well that is not 100% true.
To start ALL species of shark sleep.
From there there are species that constantly have to swim to survive, but there are many species of shark that are able to stop swimming, even for long periods of time.
For the sharks that can stop most of them just find a save place (around rocks, under sand, in plants) to sleep.
For the species that have to keep swimming they more or less do a sleep-swim. Kinda like how people sleep walk. The sharks are able to shut off enough of their brain to keep swimming while at the same time allow their body and mind a chance to rest.

It was once believed that all sharks had to swim constantly in order to breathe and could not sleep for more than a few minutes at a time. Oxygen-rich water flows through the gills during movement allowing the shark to breathe. While some species of sharks do need to swim constantly, this is not true for all sharks. Some sharks such as the nurse shark have spiracles that force water across their gills allowing for stationary rest. Sharks do not sleep like humans do, but instead have active and restful periods.

Actually Real Sharks have one and in some species multiple Balloon like organ that keeps them floating even when they are asleep. So even when they are asleep they still appear to look like they are still swimming up and down this is the reason why you sometime see Hugh sharks get washed ashore by the current even when they are perfectly healthy this is due to oversleeping and had to be helped by human back to sea.The above answers are all wrong.

Sharks dont sleep a such, they have active periods and inactive periods. some do rest on the bottom of the sea-bed, contrary to some other answers on here, they do not all have too keep moving or die, some can rest on the sea-bed for periods of time, and keep oxygen flowing over their gills by pumping their gills in and out, (nurse shark for example) but they dont actually go into a deep sleep as we know it.
Not all sharks rest on the bottom, but some can.

SHARKS DO SLEEP ,it`s a misconception that sharks don`t sleep, people believe that if a shark slept it would drown due to lack of oxygen passing through their gills. They sleep in number of ways,1st of all they can sleep as they drift to the bottom of the sea, this allows the water to flow through their gills.secondly a shark will sleep where there is a current, this also allows water to flow through their gills. Some sharks stick their self's to a rock with the use of a small sucker device on their belly, the catfish which is a close cousin of the shark uses the same method.

They lowe their metabolism and stay very still, but they can't sleep in the way we do, because they can't keep the equilibrium as easily as other fish.

Sharks do sleep. one side of there brain sleeps at a time.
so while one half of the brain is sleeping the other side keeps it swiming.
the same is true with whales and dolphins.
