Usually sellers use pay pal to get paid but some will take money orders. Dont forget to include the shipping and insurance costs. You can lose money if the item doesnt go for what you paid for it. You can set a hold price so this doesnt happen. If it doesnt sell, you would have to relist.

You can definitely lose money as with all businesses you must invest in. Whether its not being able to sell your products(being stuck with merchandise you paid for), or not selling the product for enough to cover expenses(ebay fees, paypal fees, shipping).

you pay an insertion fee whether or not your item sells with is proportional to the starting price, you also pay a closing fee only if the item sells. theres other fees to edit your auction such as more pictures, bold text, longer sell date, pay it now option, reserve, etc...

if your item doesnt sell you can relist it without having to pay the insertion fee the second time

i suggest if you are getting serious in selling on ebay you need to sit down and calculate figures. whatever you are going to sell see how much it cost you to get, then see what similar items are selling for on ebay, try to make your price competitive to their price, but also allows for you to make a profit after the fees you'll have to pay on ebay and shipping. if you are losing or not even breaking even you need to reevaluate what you are selling.

I have to agree with petaloud. Try Craigslist, just be smart about it as there's no security. If you need a bigger audience, Ebay.
Ebay was great in the early days, but now, if you have to communicate with them over a dispute or anything else, your only option is to talk to live help online. My last attempt was a 45 min. wait online, and then was cut off before anyone even answered.
