The old average was 15%, many restaurants state it is 18% now. the truth of the matter is, one can chose to leave an $8 tip for a cup of coffee that costs a dollar if they chose to do so, but I would likely say the meal was either $44.45 for 18 % or $53.34 for 15%. It could be anythying though, hope this helps!

You would have to know the % of the tip.
for example..your math question probably says a person left a 10% tip of $8 for his meal..how much was his meal....
Well then you know that 10 % of a certain number, say X is
$8 , right....
10% is written as .10
so
.10x=$8
x= 8/.10
x=80
Therefore the meal was $80.
Proof 10% of 80 is $8

If C= cost of meal, and if you leave a 15% tip, then
tip=.15C, so C=tip/.15
In this case, tip = 8, and if you are leaving something other than a 15% tip, replace .15 by whatever is appropriate.

It depends on what percentage you're leaving. Typically I'd say it was between $40 and $50.
A good rule to go by is to double the tax and add a dollar or two (depending on the tax in your state. mine is %7, so doubling that would be almost %15) or for %20, two dollars for every ten you spend.

Assuming a 15% tip?
8 = 0.15*cost
cost = 8/0.15 dollars You can do the calculation.

All depends if I'm a big tipper or cheap. You would need to know what percent of the bill the tip is.
