A nerd? No. A slightly ignorant fool? Yes.
Fact is, composite bows are far more effective, size for size, than any self-longbow or self-flatbow (made of ONE type of material, in one piece). Look at the Turkish bows, for example, or the Mongol bows: Small, compact design, yet capable of launching an arrow with enough force to penetrate armour at distances of over 100 yards. Show me a "Viking bow" of the same size that could do that - and by "size", I am not referring to draw weight.
If a Viking could get one, he would have used a composite bow. I'm a History buff, too, and I've been at it for the past 30+ years. By the way, any bow capable of launching an arrow is a "real" bow, no matter what kind of bow it is.
Now, you say that you wear Pagan pentacles and a Thor's Hammer - yet those "narrow-minded people" only made you cut your hair? I don't buy it. If they are "narrow-minded" they would not let you wear the pentacle or the Thor's Hammer... By the way, a pentacle is just a pentacle - it is not just a "Pagan thing".
Politics is great, and knowing how it works helps to make a person aware of what is really going on in the world. Keep at it - knowing your rights makes it harder for others to take those rights away.
You ride horses. That's great! I wish I had the time, the money and the horse.....
You enjoy being in the woods and spending time with Nature. That's also great! Without Nature, we would all be dead. Without trees, log homes would be scarce, campfires would be dull and paper would be much more expensive. Also, where would a person hang that tire-swing?
You don't have any friends..... Now that, son, is not good at all. Without friends, you are nothing, not even a "nerd". Do not shut yourself off from the world just because SOME people don't agree with you.
And if you REALLY want to learn about REAL Vikings, there is a group called the Society for Creative Anachronisms, Inc. - http://sca.org - you should check out. Vikings did not wear horned helmets, except for Ceremonial Rituals (if even then); most Vikings were farmers; etc.
And just so you know: a COMPOSITE bow is made of more than one material, to give it more power - and they were always a laminate type of bow, most always recurve in design. A COMPOUND bow has wheels - and is totally modern in design. COMPOSITE bows have been around for at least 2000 years, and can be as simple as a sinew-backed bow or as complex as a Mongol bow - but the "ancient" designs did not work at all well in wet regions such as Northern Scandinavia, which is why the Vikings used one-piece self-bows.

yeah. You're 14. That's too young, and with too few life experiences to call people "narrow minded".
I don't even know what "pagan pentacles" are. Whatever they are, they make you a nerd. The whole pendant thing is fairly creepy too.
Hating rap doesn't make you a nerd. Interest in politics and history is no problem either.
WHY don't you have friends?
If you enjoy archery, then trade in your wooden bow for a modern, composite fiber one, and join an archery club. Find an adult to go with you, and get your hunting license. Go Deer hunting with your bow.
If you are an equestrian, join a riding club. If you love wandering the woods, begin researching a career as a park ranger, etc.
Shooting bow and riding horses are pretty cool, AS LONG AS you realize it's 2007, not the year 1507.

Hmm. There are two answers to this question.
To mass-market society and an average passerby, yes, you are most likely a nerd.
To the rest of us, like me, you are just fine. Awesome even!
I personally still have nerdy/geeky tendencies. I love metal, I hate rap. I like history, video games, computers/technology, etc. I rarely keep friends (been backstabbed much?) and I have crazy hair. I'm cultured, smart and don't really like the whole trendy MTV, going-to-the-movies, party and get-effed-up scene. I've never done drugs, I rarely drink, and I'm very artsy. I like to be alone too, or with a VERY select circle of friends. All my other "friends" are online. So, I am seen as a nerd as well.
Don't fret! Seriously. You may be an outcast where you live, and it'll be hard, but you will make it through. I did. :) I lived in a small town (population under 1000) of crazy religious freaks who saw me as the Devil. And I was a GOOD kid! Embrace your individuality, as cheesy as it sounds. Don't change for anybody. If these are truly things you enjoy, be proud of who you are! Besides, ever heard "it's the nerds who rule the world"? I don't remember who said it, but anyhow... do you think Bill Gates worries about being a nerd? I'd say he has a pretty good life. And so will you. Us nerds do wonderful things, like cure diseases, create new technology, make awesome movies/music, and so on.
To sum things up: you're 14. You've got a little growing up to do... you are probably full of potential, and once you realize it, you'll have the power to do something awesome. Like I said, just hang in there. :)
The nerdy Jenn

Absolutely not. No Way. You choice of music is yours. Your choice of sports is unusual but very interesting. But, you also join many others who also like horses, riding and all that goes with it. Archery is not wodespread but it requires a great deal of skill and strength. Wonderful that you should not follow the usual jock for baseball, bsktball & Ft ball. (Now soccer). I to love the woods and "Nature" so do many other people. Many are fighting hard to preserve that for people like you who want to enjoy the peace and wonder of grwoing forests. Long hair - So what. It is you hair. I had mine so long it went to my belt. I too cut it because it did make me somewhat of an outcast and made doing business with "Straights" quite difficult. I had it long because I was the Road Manager for The DOORS and that was the thing to do.
Nerd - Hell no - You are a regular guy who is following his interests. Stick with it. Be yourself and not a follower of fad and fancy. Amazing to see some kid your age not glued to a computer screen. By the way - History is fascinating. Since you are different - try some classic music. You may well find some really interesting thoughts about it if you just listen and not try to make something of it. If has a beat and there is a melody and harmony, trust me, you may be totally taken. Now, I am an organ builder as I was before I went with the Doors. Some of the music for organ mught just knock you over. You have an intellect that would really enjoy the classics.
Good for you - Forget the nerd bit - you are a clever boy who thinks for himself. Good for you.

No, You're Gothic Hippie Nerd! All you need is a guitar and some weed and you're set bro!!! Grow the hair and keep the green on the scene an' don't worry 'bout the other punks out there. Write about them an make a ton of cash!! Marlyn Manson and Alice Cooper are very well educated people, and have made the Gothic Hippie Nerd type cool!! I suggest that you get a job in the public eye so you are confronted with community, learn about others and help them be their own people. Peace out lil bro!

No, you are entirely yourself. The stage of life you're at now is a self conscious one, as you and you contemporaries work out the kind of people you are, and the kind you want to be. It's a very self obsessed age too - my diaries from when I was 14 and 15 sound very similar (although I was a girl, obviously)
Having lots of friends is over-rated, frankly. You just need one or two good ones. And they don't have to be your own age. Be yourself, but be open and friendly to everyone you meet. Don't bother with labels like "nerd" they are meaningless.

What you are is an individual! It's a shame you cut your hair, though, as a lot of lads really suit long hair!
It's great that you have so many interests! You don't have to be into football, cars and girls to be considered 'normal'!
The most important thing is to stay true to yourself. Don't start pretending to be something you're not!
There are plenty more people like you out there, (individuals being themselves), you obviously haven't met any of them yet!
Just carry on enjoying the things you do, and keep on being yourself while they all act as sheep, following each other!
