Hey Y'all, I just got a new winter and summer squash recipe in which the directions say to pierce and cook the squash in the microwave until barely tender. I'm using a butternut squash in the recipe, but I've never cooked one in the microwave and I need to know how long it might take to get to barely tender. Has anyone ever nuked a squash? How long do you think it would take? I know how to cook them in the oven, but I think this is supposed to sqeed the process because the recipe is to saute afterward. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I wish I new, I love butternut squash,

Depending on how big it is, try starting out at 3 minutes, and then keep adding time until it is cooked. You might need to pay attention on how long it took as you will know for the next time.

Good luck..

I have never nuked a whole squash. I have always sliced them into 2" slices, put them in a shallow pan of water, covered with plastic wrap and nuked for 5 minutes. Sometimes, even that isn't long enough They are a VERY firm squash, and DELICIOUS mashed with brown sugar, butter and walnuts.

I would start out with six to eight minutes....I usually cut them in half and put butter and brown sugar on them and cover with a good plastic wrap....try to figure time according to what it would take to do two nice sized baked potatoes in the microwave.
