i read these books (i think it was a series) when i was about 9 or 10 and i borrowed them of my friend who had gotten them from her mum... so i think they are quite a few years old. i cant for the life of me remember what they were but i loved them! the only thing that sticks out in my mind was that it was children (maybe 4 or 5 of them?) and they ended up solving a crime and usually had loads of disguises to help them... and they were really clever! can anyone help meee?

How about "The Secret Seven" "The Famous Five" or "The Five Find-Outers" by Enid Blyton? Since it has about 4-5 kids, it most probably isn't "Hardy Boys" or "Nancy Drew". Maybe you could include a rough description of what happened in one of the books so we can help better?

There have been several series where kids solved crimes. Since you didn't specify boys or girls or mixed groups, I've listed what I can remember in order of when they were published.

Nancy Drew (teenage girls) and Hardy Boys (two brothers) published in the 1930s.

Encyclopedia Brown published in the 1950s and 1960s.

The Boxcar Children (I don't know the dates, but they were popular around the 1960s)

The Ghostwriters (that's not the real title that I know of). Kids were given assignments by a ghostly hand on a typewriter. Made into a TV series. 1970s.

James Howe has a detective series as well featuring a character who I think is named Sebastian. He also wrote the Bunnicula series.

Nancy Drew mysteries are excellent and well written. Hardy Boys are also very good.

Only joking! Wasn't it like the fantastic five or the magnificent seven or something???

I'm sure they did a TV series as well.
