Because we can crush anyone who disagrees with that assessment. No really, we spend more on our military then the next 10 countries combined. Of course using all that force is counterproductive, and it would be better if we found a better metric for nations to be judged on, but in the international arena might makes right.

I guess because we have all the nuclear power that we don't want anyone else to have. Apparently we are the only responsible country on earth.. even tho we are the only country to have actually used this power against other people.. hmmm... is cause for thought no???

Because we are a very dominant country which is able to project it's military power anywhere in the world.
And despite what this administration would tell you (in order to get more funding for the Pentagon) we are many, many times more powerful than our next closest competitors in this arena: Russia and China.

We have nukes and the ability to spend money like a drunken sailor. And do. On other countries that use our own system against us and make us look dumber than we already are.
