do you think it's mean to make one twin have a really unique name, while the other has a common name? Or do you think you should keep it both unique or both common? please give me your thoughts, as well as great twin names! :) thanks

I think it's great that you're putting so much thought into it, actually. ;) Too often parents basically choose only a name for "Twin A," then pick something eerily similar -- whether they like it or not LOL -- for "Twin B." Shame.

Really, the question of a unique versus common name is a case-by-case one. If the names are stylictically similar, for example, I don't think popularity is that big an issue. For instance, both Chloe and Hermione are from Greek mythology. So although Chloe is quite popular and Hermione less familiar (at least beyond Harry Potter, unfortunately), they're still obviously well-thought-out names for siblings. I wouldn't find them odd in the least.

On the other hand, naming one Emily (most popular name for a decade LOL) and the other Xerxes (VERY uncommon Greek form of a Persian name) would seem an obvious mismatch. ;)

Now if you do happen to like two names that seem miles apart in terms of familiarity, but still work together stylistically, perhaps a more or less common middle name (switched for the more or less common first name) would help provide some balance. For example, both Aidan and Niamh are traditional Celtic choices, but Aidan happens to be very common and Niamh less known (in the states). Still a great match, but if the parents feel one might resent having the popular or unfamiliar name, Aidan might be given a more unusual middle name and Niamh a familiar one. Aidan Malachy and Niamh Caitlin, for instance. :)

Hopefully you get the idea. Good luck!

To me, the trick is that they sound nice together. They'll sound nice together if they're not too weird. Guillermo and George sound really odd together, but Callista and Olivia sound good together to me, even though Olivia is much more common than Callista.

My favorite twin names are Charlotte and Sebastian.

I also like Allegra and Rowena because they both mean "joy".

My other favorite set is Fergus and William, which both mean "strong man".

It depends on what style of names they are. I think a Helena and a Katherine would be find because they are both old fashioned although Helena is uncommon and Katherine is fairly popular for example.

But Katherine and Kayleana don't go because they styles are too different.

YKWIM? I think it would help more to know the names.

It's okay to do one common name and one uncommon name. They can still match, too, if you like same letter names.
Caitria & Carolyn
Daphne & Danielle
Tabitha & Taylor
Sidra & Stacy
Maiara & Meredith

i dont think it matter much. the only thing i hate is names that rhyme.

Girl/Girl names i love are Jade Marie and Isabella Diane

Boy/Boy names i love are Braxton Nathaniel and Julian Phillip

you can use 1 of the above names for Boy/girl combo.

I just think it's sort of weird since one has a name that everyone has and the other one has a name that sounds made up.
