This last week has been kinda busy for me, so I haven't had as much time for new music as I'd have liked, but I did come across a band called Math and Physics Club who seem quite good. I can't find the song I've been listening to on YouTube (it's called "Nothing Really Happened"), but here's another one by them, although I don't like this one as much.

I also got a song by Pavement which I love, called "Grounded", so now I'm planning on buying some of their stuff.

And last but not least, the song I've been listening to the most lately, "Unless it Kicks" by Okkervil River.

Oh, and I really like your one, very melancholy, very cool. And laura's choice was really good too. This recommendations question is definitely something we'll have to keep doing.

Well, I've known of the Charlatans (not the alternative 80s band from the UK, but the psychedelic 60s band from the US) for a while but I hadn't been able to get a CD of theirs. I didn't think would be able to (they're a bit obscure), but I just happened to look them up on All Music Guide one day and there was a link to purchase a CD! It also gives short clips of each song (sorry, nothing on youtube): http://wc10.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:jxfyxq9hldae

I ordered the CD a couple of days ago...can't wait to get it!

Another band I'm big on at the moment is the Blend...here is their song the Prize: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRPC31pI6Qw

Edit: I'm glad you like the Blend! I could never find a CD of theirs, but I did find Anytime Delight on vinyl....

This Jeffrey Lewis song reminds me of another, but for some reason I can't think of which one. It's the way it's sung...ah, that's going to bother me. I like it though...for some odd reason, it makes me smile (even though the lyrics are a bit dreary).

Melissa - are you referring to Kimya Dawson? If you are, that would be great. Coincidentally, I just discovered her music last week on a punk site, which I like to frequent. I'm typically not into folk-punk, or anything remotely close to this genre, but I still give her a lot of credit for her lyrics.
"Loose Lips" is a cute little ditty...The chorus makes for a great drinking song, and it's infectiously catchy:

"We won't stop until somebody calls the cops, and even then we'll start again and just pretend that --- nothing ever happened"

Discovered this band a while ago, but this song I found out recently.

Quicksilver Messenger Service - Fresh Air

http://youtube.com/watch?v=3ygH6prkcIs

All Music Guide says the song is from one of their average albums (three stars), and they have their first two albums at four-and-a-half stars, so I'm eager to find out exactly how good the band is.

This song, "Courage, Robert," is based on the life of a famous 20th century romantic pianist and composer, Robert Shumann. After permanently injuring his hand, he dedicated himself completely to composing music, and his wife, Clara, performed most of his compositions.
