There weren't any important variety rarities in 1956 that I'm aware of, so it's just a penny, unless it is in uncirculated Red condition. If you found it somewhere, it's probably very flawed, and brown in color. Because it's a wheat back cent, it's supposedly worth more, but a dealer will only pay a premium for wheat cents in large quantities, because they tend to be unsearched and cents worth a lot more may be in the lot.

it is a copper penny copper is 3 dollars a pound and willgo up another dollar next year and in 2009 a new penny might be coming out for lincolns centennial making your 1956 more collectable because all lincoln cents will disappear in the collecting craze. ebay sells 5000 to a bag. but these little pennies will disappear in a year or two..... keep it

Not really, for it is relativly new and had a mintage of 420,745,000. Even in mint state they sell for around .25. You will have to hold on to it for a number of years before it's value goes up.

I'd keep it if I were you, but no, it isn't worth anything. It's not all that old for coins.
