A lot of older people in my area hate it as the kids can demand money with menaces.

We are having a good old fashioned Scottish Halloween this year, apple dooking, eating treacle scones from a string ect ect, no pumpkins but a prize for the best turnip lamp and one for the best costume. The wee party is for my Grandsons and their friends, I bet The Hairy Gang enjoy it too.

Dreading it! It doesn't make any difference that we don't have a pumpkin on our driveway, that we lock the drive gates and we try to sit in absolute darkness....the blighters still manage to get to our front door and when we don't answer we get eggs chucked at our windows. But even tho they do that we will not be opening our door at all. It's lovely where we live until Halloween coz kids from all over town come up here and we've got a farmers field at the back of us where the local yobs congregate and chuck stuff at the back of all the houses along the back road. They usually set off fireworks that night too which the ones that are around now sound like bombs and are very frightening. We know it's for the little kids but try telling that to all the older kids, teens etc that make life hell for people this time of year. (we appreciate it is just a minority and not all teens that cause this type of trouble but it's the bad 'uns that we get)

Haven't heard of the money and menacing thing.....I love seeing the little ones in their costumes. They pretty much keep it right after school for 2 hours........still daylight and all here.

Most fun I had was in Florida....lived in Cassadage...psychic town....non-psychic section..lol...and another small town next to it. People decorated to the hilt.....some had almost a mini-haunted yard you had to go through to get your candy.....I mean everyone was out....the mayor popped pop-corn in the porch....you'd have people grabbing your ankles as you walked up steps to the doors with coffins opening and closing and all sorts of cool stuff. Not to mention the thrill of the haunted grave yard and all that. It was a blast........my neighbor had a HUGE spider and spider web that covered the whole front of thier 2 story house....errie lights and everything in each window....graveyard in front...went all out.....

Haven't seen anything close to that anywhere else.

Haloween does not bother me as I do not take any notice of it, but the idiots that have to let off fireworks, on this day, when it has nothing to do with our Guy Fawkes celebrations, and make all the amimals quiver, or bark in fear, just about piss me off. Nov 5th is our day for fireworks, not Haloween.

I'm from the states, but a net friend of mine, who lives near
Oldham, says their children don't do any trick or treating. They
go to their local pub, and the owners dress in costume and
pass out bags of treats to the families who bring their children
in with costumes. The families all eat dinner before going
home. I had to explain to him the concept of kids going door
to door for tricks, or treats, or both.

Neither although I cant say I relish the idea of Missy barking every 5 minutes when kids come to the door. Love horror films though.

Not one or the other really. I shall stick a sign on my door asking people NOT to trick or treat (because I have 3 dogs that get freaked). Then I shall sit and watch tV & forget about Halloween xx

Halloween is great for fun and dressing up, just not sure about trick or treat as I wouldn't want my old Dad answering the door after 8pm. you don't really know nowadays who's out there.
