She wants to be submissive to me but I instructed her that I would have none of this misogynistic BS. I demanded that she stand up to me and defy me if necessary, but she refused. How do I get her to not defy my order to defy me?

Sarah, no I want her to not defy my order to defy me, not defy any order to not defy me, because I did not ask her to not defy me :-). Make sense?

Wow you are so confused. You want to trick her into defying your order not to defy you? LOL why not just try to be happy?

Each person in the marriage has their strengths and weaknesses. Each person should have the strengths that the other lacks. Together they make a complete entity and as such there is no "obeying" going on whatsoever. Decisions should always be made together, with the pros and cons looked at thoroughly - decisions should never be made on the fact that one person is the husband and one is the wife. This is ridiculous and a surefire way to really mess up both lives and the lives of any children as well.

If she wants to be a submissive and you don't want to be a misogynist, and presumably also don't want to be abusive, then you two need to talk about what you want and why. From what little you've said, I wonder, if by submissive but defiant, you and she both mean you'd like to try D/s. If so, get the books linked to below, read them, and then talk about it some more.

It makes perfect sense; you want her to listen to you, to do as you say; not to cower in a corner in fear waiting to be told what to do next is what you want. Apparently she's got no idea as to what obedience is and, or what it means.
What you do is you lay it on the line with her. Tell her it's OK for an obedient wife to have some spunk; that you adore spunky gals. Go on, then, tell her no man wants a woman who's afraid of her own husband; let alone her own shadow; meaning that she won't be obedient when she's afraid of being punished. Especially, when obedience means to be WILLING to do as is told.

Your question worries me, especailly due to the fact that you are wearing a cowboy hat.
First off, what phychological issues are causing your wife to feel that she need be 'submissive' to you? It's not the 1800's anymore, nor is it a patriarchal society. Please assist her in seeking therapy if you love her
Often times, situations like this can be caused from past traumas in her life.

You don't get her to obey you.
If you want her to stand up to you, just get her to make decisions so she learns to think for herself.

Send her away for a weekend on a feminist boot camp. LOL then after that... RUN, HIDE and PRAY for what youve asked for.

This is a trick question. You obviously are not married because you say, "She wants to be submissive to me . . . ."
