Personally I don't think this story could be effective any other place but an island. On the island they are cut off from all civilization with no hope of anyone finding them.

If it were in the middle of the rain forest for example there would still be some hope of rescue because the boys may be able to walk and find civilization(even if the chance is small).

anywhere there is a disaster and ppl are cut off from social structure for too long and put under too much stress. Think about New Orlines(sp) after huricane Katrina. Look at all the problems they had at the super dome with people fighting and even killing each other. Desperate people in a desperate situation resorting back to doing whatever it takes to stay alive. people are animals at heart so when really pushed we go back to our roots.

On a "Reality" TV show? Does "Kid Nation" ring any bells?

This might actually be an interesting take on the question. Your teacher might actually like reading something different than the same old answers everybody else will turn in. Let your imagination fly and put it down on paper.
