It was stated on ESPN this moring that a team has gone 0-16 before. If you read my profile, then you would know that the St. Louis Rams are one of my favoirte teams. John Madden said that the Dolphins and the Rams are not going to go 0 - 16, but it has happened before. Who was that other team to go 0 - 16?

There's never been an 0-16 team.

Tampa Bay went winless in their initial NFL season, but that was during the days of the 14-game regular season schedule.

Remember the source.. John Madden is NOT the best choice for football facts and figures. As a former coach, he's outstanding on colour commentary and the x's and o's of the game, but do not put this man in a trivia contest.

As other posters have stated, Tampa Bay was the most recent team to go winless for an entire season, which at the time was only 14 games.

Big John is right about one thing, it's very unlikely that the Rams or Dolphins will go winless this year.

No team has ever gone 0-16.

The 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers went 0-14.

Since going to the 16 game schedule, 5 teams have gone 1-15.

Other Winless Teams:
1960 Cowboys (0-11-1)
1982 Colts (0-8-1) (strike-shortened season)
1942 Lions (0-11)
1943 Cardinals (0-10)
1944 "Carpets" (Chicago Cards-Pittsburgh Steelers merged team) (0-10)

I don't think any team went 0-16, but there were some close ones:
1990 Patriots (1-15)
1976 Buccaneers (0-14)
1980 Saints (1-15)
2001 Carolina Panthers (1-15)
2000 Chargers (1-15)

Tampa Bay lost their first 26 games going 0-14 in 1976 and starting 0-12 in 1977, before winning their last 2 game of the 1977 season.

I don't believe that it has. Tampa Bay went 0 - 14 before the NFL went to a 16 game season.

no team in modern NFL history has ever gone a whole season without winning at least one game, except the Bucs, who went 0-14, and I don't count the strike shortened season because it WASN'T a true regulation season, and I don't really count the earlier seasons where they only played 10-11 games.
And, I hope they don't this year.
