People, I know that the welfare system isn't perfect, and that the war in Iraq is taking funding away from important programs, but I asked a specific question... PERCENTAGE of error, fraud and abuse... not your opinion of welfare or the war.
And yes, it is answerable according to statistics somewhere... however inaccurate that may actually be. I have found past data, just not recent data.

PLEASE PLEASE don't answer if you don't know. Your opinion matters, just not in this particular case.

and to the person who thinks I am getting my piece of the pie... of course I am (or will be), and you are too my ignorant little friend... we are all part of the social welfare policy system, it's called Social Security.

Ignorance and rudeness are bad habits.

I really doubt that there is very much. Typically republicans try to use that idea to weight the results of whatever election is in the offing. They are still using the same rotten stories that they were using when I was a child (I'm 70) and the gullible people are still falling for them. No one really does any real research.

I know of state legislators who run for office on the platform of cleaning up the system. He goes in wholeheartedly and goes through everything with a fine tooth comb and then you never hear anything more about it. (He was unable to find anything wrong) But no credit is given to the department. They want to keep the rumors going though there is no truth to them. How sad!

Well, Ill have to do some research for you but this is a true story.

I grew up in a small town where apporximately 75+% of the population was on welfare, these were not poeple who were disabled in any way (most of them). These women first would go to sign up for assistance and would take multiple birth certs with them (the women in the town loaned their childrens BC to each other to reguster more kids than they had, since there was any way for the office to track these children). They would come in to the grocery store that my grand-father owned where I worked with their hair all done up, the latest designer clothes, purses, nails done, driving pretty decent vehicles with sound systems and chrome wheels, then you would take a look at their children who would be wearing nothing but maybe a diaper or a piar of shorts, looking like they had not bathed in a month. Then you would have the boozers who would stand out front of the store and try to sell their food stamps (this was way back when they still had the paper money or "food stamps") for cash so they could buy booze. That was one way they tried to get real cash, the other way was to come in and purchase a 5 cent candy (yes i piece) with a $1.00 food stamp and get the $0.95 in cash change, then repeat. My grandfather made a policy against this finally.

On top of this, these people constantly came in and stole things (i know, I watched them on the video monitors) So not only is the government suplimentaing their lives, but they feel they need to steal on top of it.

Now tell me our system is working.

Your question is not really answerable, because it is really three separate questions. Any system that can be exploited for profit will be exploited for profit by dishonest people--this type of abuse is not confined to the poor. Look at Enron, for example.

How much error is another question. Any system of government distribution of benefits is only as good as the data entry clerks inputting the necessary data.

in assessment to banks and massive corporation keeping off paying a honest tax this falls into insignificance.the two placed a burdon on the damaging and espresso paid who're a standard aim for the government to make up the quick fall.

I wouldn't know where to find a statistic, but I know it is rampant. I love seeing people in the grocery store with their 'food stamp card' but they fork over $20s for their booze. Others file in multiple states.
