A buffet may have un-authentic foods like chicken fingers and ice cream for more variety. Authentic restaurants will only give you traditional Chinese food. The food at a sit-down restaurant will also be much hotter because it hasn't been sitting out for who-knows-how-long. I'd also suggest not going to buffets because there are a lot more germs in the food...people who cough/sneeze by the food or just pick the food right out with their fingers cause health problems.

Well just about everything in the US has US ties. Just remember only americans eat duck sauce. Now most of the tastes are authentic just used in differant ways. Like in china they eat a whole lot more rice and veggies then meat because meat is expensive for the average poor chinese person. You can usally pick the dish you like most and look it up on wikipedia to learn its origin.

Most places in the US have western influnce and its really hard to find authentic unless you go to that country and even then it may still be influnced by the west because , england, france, and us have had major impact on the world.

I dont really see the big deal about authentic i know its cool to say oh thats what it really tastes like, but most of the time its at least close anyways unless its fastfood.

i been to US, australia, china and singapore.. the chinese food taste different in all 3 places.. doesnt matter if its buffet or so called authentic restaurant in western countries... Of course restaurant food is tastier and fresher. The thing is u cant get the same ingredients in different countries.. i cant even find a home brand of chinese soya sauce in US.. Im from Singapore so of course i prefer chinese food in Singapore which being influenced by the multi-racial community is spicer. The main difference i have to say is the rice.. its drier less lumpy in western countries in Asia more sticky and starchy... But of course u want the original go to China... They throw in huge amounts of salt XP

well the buffets have cheaper food and methods of preparing the food that are less expensive, and usually the lunch buffet is just the leftovers from the dinner buffet the night before...also you dont really need to be a trained chef to work in a chinese buffet. so the end result is food that is less flavorful and not carefully prepared. but you can chow down at the buffet :)

Dim sum items. Authentic Chinese buffets will have various dim sum items beyond pork buns and Shumai.

besides being able to get ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you want in a chinese buffet for a cheaper price than getting just one thing and have to buy other things to get what you want for a higher price, I wouldn't really know, maybe in taste/flavoring or something like that, but it depends on both places
